Social Clipping Website (SCW)

As of Jan. 2009, social clipping works when a given webpage contains a link to invoke a social clipping / bookmarking website (e.g. Digg, delicious). But how'd you clip a certain target webpage if it doesn't contain such a link? What if you'd like to clip the target webpage to your own website?

Social Clipping Website (SCW) is the answer.

On the target webpage, you simply right-click your mouse, click a menu item called 'Clip to SCW'. Presto, the target webpage's URL is saved to SCW.

Benefits:

1. To User of SCW: Ability to clip any webpage whether or not it contains a link for clipping.

2. To Owner of SCW: Advertising revenue for (say) Google AdSense ads placed on SCW.

Questions:

1. How do you make the Clip to SCW menu item appear on all browsers? Do people have to download some software and install it on their PCs?

2. Does the person have to pre-open SCW on his browser? If yes, is merely keeping SCW open enough, or does person have to logon and stay logged on while attempting to clip the target webpage?

Competition as at Jan 2009:

1. Google Notebook. Reportedly closing down by March 2009. Requires browser extension / toolbar to be downloaded and installed on local PC (but embeds itself with Google Toolbar, which might anyway be present on the user's browser). Allows clippings to be saved only on Google website.

2. Clipmarks.com. Requires downloadable software to be installed on local PC. Also, did not work well when I tried it.

2. ClipClip.org. Requires browser extension / toolbar to be downloaded and installed on local PC. Allows clippings to be saved only on ClipClip website.
